আসসালামু আলাইকুম, আসা করি আপনারা সকলেই ভালো আছেন। আমাদের Tense এর এই সিরিজে আজকে Past indefinite tense নিয়ে বিস্তারিত জানব, কীভাবে অতীতের কথাগুলো খুব সুন্দর করে ইংরেজিতে বলা যায়, তাহলে চলুন খাতা কলম নিয়ে শুরু করি।
The Past indefinite Tense
অতীতে কোন কাজ করা হয়েছিলো কিন্তু বর্তমানে তার ফল বিদ্যমান নেই এরুপ প্রকাশ করলে verb এর Past indefinite tense হয়।
বাংলা বাক্য চিনিবার উপায়: বাংলা বাক্যের শেষে ছিল, ছিলাম, ছিলে, ছিলেন, ল, লাম, লে, লেন, ত, তাম, তে তেন এদের যে কোন একটি যোগ থাকে। যেমন: করেছিল, করিয়াছিল, করেছিলাম, করিয়াছিলাম, করেছিলে, করিয়া ছিলে, করেছিলেন, করিয়াছিলেন, পড়িল, পড়িলাম, পড়িলেন, পড়িত, পড়িতেন ইত্যাদি থাকে তাহলে তা Past indefinite tense হয়।
Structure: subject + মূল Verb এর Past form + object.
যেমন : আমি স্কুলে গিয়েছিলাম – I went to school.
examples of Past indefinite tense:
১️. ছিল (had / did)
সে গতকাল কাজটি করেছিল।
→ He did the work yesterday.
আমি খবরটি আগেই জেনেছিলাম।
→ I had known the news earlier.
তারা সিনেমাটি দেখেছিল।
→ They watched the movie.
সে আমাকে সত্য কথাটি বলেছিল।
→ He told me the truth.
আমরা গত বছর ঢাকায় গিয়েছিলাম।
→ We went to Dhaka last year.
সে রাতে দেরিতে ঘুমিয়েছিল।
→ He slept late at night.
আমি বইটি মনোযোগ দিয়ে পড়েছিলাম।
→ I read the book attentively.
সে পরীক্ষায় ভালো ফল করেছিল।
→ He did well in the exam.
তারা সিদ্ধান্তটি দ্রুত নিয়েছিল।
→ They took the decision quickly.
আমি কাজটি শেষ করেছিলাম।
→ I finished the work.
২️. ছিলাম (was)
আমি গতকাল খুব ব্যস্ত ছিলাম।
→ I was very busy yesterday.
আমি তখন বাড়িতে ছিলাম।
→ I was at home then.
আমি পরীক্ষার আগে নার্ভাস ছিলাম।
→ I was nervous before the exam.
আমি ছোটবেলায় গ্রামে ছিলাম।
→ I was in the village in my childhood.
আমি সেই সময় অসুস্থ ছিলাম।
→ I was sick at that time.
আমি ক্লাসে উপস্থিত ছিলাম।
→ I was present in the class.
আমি সিদ্ধান্ত নিতে প্রস্তুত ছিলাম।
→ I was ready to take a decision.
আমি সত্য কথাই বলার পক্ষে ছিলাম।
→ I was in favor of telling the truth.
আমি তখন ছাত্র ছিলাম।
→ I was a student then.
আমি কাজে মনোযোগী ছিলাম।
→ I was attentive to my work.
৩️.ছিলে (were)
তুমি গতকাল আমাকে ফোন করেছিলে।
→ You called me yesterday.
তুমি তখন বাসায় ছিলে না।
→ You were not at home then.
তুমি পরীক্ষার সময় চিন্তিত ছিলে।
→ You were worried during the exam.
তুমি ছোটবেলায় খুব দুষ্ট ছিলে।
→ You were very naughty in childhood.
তুমি সত্য কথাটি বলেছিলে।
→ You told the truth.
তুমি আমাকে সাহায্য করতে রাজি ছিলে।
→ You were willing to help me.
তুমি ক্লাসে মনোযোগী ছিলে।
→ You were attentive in the class.
তুমি ঢাকায় কয়েকদিন ছিলে।
→ You stayed in Dhaka for a few days.
তুমি আমার অপেক্ষায় ছিলে।
→ You were waiting for me.
তুমি কাজে আগ্রহী ছিলে।
→ You were interested in the work.
৪️. ছিলেন (was / were – respectful)
তিনি গতকাল অফিসে ছিলেন।
→ He was in the office yesterday.
শিক্ষক ক্লাসে উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
→ The teacher was present in the class.
তিনি আমাদের খুব সাহায্য করেছিলেন।
→ He helped us a lot.
তিনি সভায় বক্তব্য দিয়েছিলেন।
→ He gave a speech at the meeting.
তিনি তখন দেশের বাইরে ছিলেন।
→ He was abroad then.
তিনি আমাদের শিক্ষক ছিলেন।
→ He was our teacher.
তিনি ছাত্রদের ভালোবাসতেন।
→ He loved the students.
তিনি কাজে খুব আন্তরিক ছিলেন।
→ He was very sincere in his work.
তিনি সিদ্ধান্তটির পক্ষে ছিলেন।
→ He was in favor of the decision.
তিনি সময়মতো উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
→ He was present on time.
৫️. ল (did)
সে বইটি পড়িল।
→ He read the book.
ছেলেটি খেলাটি জিতিল।
→ The boy won the game.
সে কাজটি শেষ করিল।
→ He finished the work.
শিশুটি খাবারটি খেল।
→ The child ate the food.
সে স্কুলে গেল।
→ He went to school.
সে খবরটি শুনিল।
→ He heard the news.
সে সিদ্ধান্তটি নিল।
→ He took the decision.
সে চিঠিটি লিখিল।
→ He wrote the letter.
সে গল্পটি বলিল।
→ He told the story.
সে কাজটি ঠিকভাবে করিল।
→ He did the work properly.
৬️. লাম (did – I)
আমি বইটি পড়িলাম।
→ I read the book.
আমি কাজটি শেষ করিলাম।
→ I finished the work.
আমি সিদ্ধান্তটি নিলাম।
→ I took the decision.
আমি ঢাকায় গেলাম।
→ I went to Dhaka.
আমি খবরটি শুনিলাম।
→ I heard the news.
আমি পরীক্ষাটি দিলাম।
→ I sat for the exam.
আমি সত্য কথাটি বলিলাম।
→ I told the truth.
আমি তাকে সাহায্য করিলাম।
→ I helped him.
আমি কাজটি শুরু করিলাম।
→ I started the work.
আমি ভুলটি বুঝি নিলাম।
→ I understood the mistake.
৭️. লে (did – you)
তুমি বইটি পড়িলে।
→ You read the book.
তুমি কাজটি শেষ করিলে।
→ You finished the work.
তুমি আমাকে ডাক দিলে।
→ You called me.
তুমি সিদ্ধান্তটি নিলে।
→ You took the decision.
তুমি সত্য কথাটি বলিলে।
→ You told the truth.
তুমি পরীক্ষায় অংশ নিলে।
→ You took part in the exam.
তুমি তাকে সাহায্য করিলে।
→ You helped him.
তুমি খবরটি শুনিলে।
→ You heard the news.
তুমি স্কুলে গেলে।
→ You went to school.
তুমি ভুলটি বুঝিলে।
→ You understood the mistake.
৮️. লেন (did – respectful)
তিনি বইটি পড়িলেন।
→ He read the book.
তিনি সিদ্ধান্তটি নিলেন।
→ He took the decision.
তিনি বক্তব্য দিলেন।
→ He gave a speech.
তিনি কাজটি শেষ করিলেন।
→ He finished the work.
তিনি আমাদের ডাক দিলেন।
→ He called us.
তিনি বিষয়টি ব্যাখ্যা করিলেন।
→ He explained the matter.
তিনি সাহায্য করিলেন।
→ He helped.
তিনি দায়িত্ব গ্রহণ করিলেন।
→ He accepted the responsibility.
তিনি সভায় উপস্থিত হইলেন।
→ He attended the meeting.
তিনি ছাত্রদের উৎসাহ দিলেন।
→ He encouraged the students.
৯️. ত (used to)
সে নিয়মিত পড়াশোনা করিত।
→ He used to study regularly.
সে সকালে হাঁটতে যেত।
→ He used to go for a walk in the morning.
সে গান গাইত।
→ He used to sing songs.
সে সত্য কথা বলত।
→ He used to tell the truth.
সে বই পড়তে ভালোবাসত।
→ He loved reading books.
সে স্কুলে নিয়মিত যেত।
→ He used to go to school regularly.
সে আমাকে সম্মান করিত।
→ He respected me.
সে নিয়ম মেনে চলত।
→ He followed the rules.
সে আমাদের সাহায্য করত।
→ He used to help us.
সে সময়মতো কাজ করত।
→ He used to work on time.
১০. তাম (used to – I)
আমি নিয়মিত পড়াশোনা করিতাম।
→ I used to study regularly.
আমি ছোটবেলায় গ্রামে থাকতাম।
→ I used to live in a village in childhood.
আমি সকালে হাঁটতে যেতাম।
→ I used to go for a walk in the morning.
আমি বই পড়তে ভালোবাসতাম।
→ I loved reading books.
আমি সময়মতো কাজ করতাম।
→ I used to work on time.
আমি সত্য কথা বলতাম।
→ I used to tell the truth.
আমি শিক্ষককে সম্মান করতাম।

তুমি নিয়মিত পড়াশোনা করিতে।
→ You used to study regularly.
তুমি সকালে হাঁটতে যাইতে।

তুমি সত্য কথা বলিতে।
→ You used to tell the truth.
তুমি নিয়ম মেনে চলিতে।
→ You used to follow the rules.
তুমি আমাকে সাহায্য করিতে।
→ You used to help me.

তিনি সময়মতো অফিসে যাইতেন।
